Chin Aesthetics

The word “Chin” is a word of Persian origin. All phrases containing the word “chin” have always been aphorisms on the word, wording and speaking; about to “jaw”, “jaw off” “jaw”. The fact that people with large and powerful jaws have been listened to, passed the word and even ruled over power throughout history certainly has something to do with this situation. As if Bill Clinton’s being a leader, how much of an effect does the phrase “determination” that his chin adds to his face? One of the reasons why we see Alec Boldwin, who has a wide chin, in authoritative roles, and Tom Hanks, who has a protruding chin, in emotional roles, is because of these chin structures that contribute to the harmony of their faces. The authoritative father of the TV series “Children Do Not Hear” Tamer Karadağlı’s chin, which added strength to his beautiful face, was also a factor in his successful transfer of his role to us. According to İlm-i Sima, those with wide jaws; domineering, very round ones; those with energetic, protruding jaws that are not mistaken forward; those who are stubborn, inclined towards the upper truth; the little ones who are fond of taste; It can be said that it has an unstable landscape. A pleasant or beautiful face is mentioned when every aesthetic unit of the face is in harmony with each other. With this; The chin is one of the parts that have the most decisive role among the aesthetic units of the face.

Aesthetic interventions on the chin are decided in 4 ways.

The first of these; They are interventions made to soft tissues without touching bone structures. Here, sufficient improvement can be achieved by injecting filler elements, especially in the area where there is a deficiency or insufficiency. Filling applications meet the patient’s need for patients who do not want an incision in the jawbone and patients who need mild corrections. However, since filling applications are discontinuous applications, they must be repeated after 2 years.

Latter; These are operations that aim to remove only the aesthetic defects of the chin without interfering with another aesthetic unit on the face of the patients. In these patients, the tip of the jaw is moved forward, backward, right, left, down or up, depending on the need. In patients with slightly protruding chin, sometimes only the filing process is sufficient. Since there will be a gap in the middle of the chin and the chin, especially in cases where the chin tip needs to be taken down, bone patches may be needed to fill this gap. These bone patches are usually taken from the patient’s hip. When it is necessary to move the jaw tip forward, this intervention can be done by cutting the jaw tip according to the patient’s needs, or it can be done with a prosthesis to be placed on the jaw tip from the outside. Aesthetic operations performed only for the chin are not limited to the chin. Plastic surgery can also be performed on the patient’s chin corners. The desired result is obtained with the cutting and filing processes applied to the jaw in very wide jaws with very obvious corners of the jaw. However, prosthesis is applied in patients whose chin corners are not obvious, faint or on top.

Third; These are the operations performed on patients who have impaired relationship between the lower and upper jaws and have problems with mouth closure. In these patients, surgical processes, also called orthognathic surgery or single chin and double chin surgeries, which regulate the closure of the chin as well as the aesthetic image, are applied. Before the interventions for orthognathic surgery, the patient must undergo an orthodontic examination and treatment. Surgery can be performed on only the lower jaw, only the upper jaw, or both. In these applications, forward, backward, upper, lower or forward and backward processes are applied to the lower and upper jaws according to the patient’s need. When the jaws are placed in their new places, they are fixed with titanium plates. Since the jaws of the patients are replaced with their teeth in orthognathic surgery, the relationship of the patient’s damaged lower and upper teeth improves after the operation. However, in more than one patient, orthodontic treatment continues after surgical procedures.

Fourth; It is the application of aesthetic applications to the chin in addition to operations such as rhinoplasty, which is planned to be applied to the patient’s face. These patients are often the ones who want aesthetic nose surgery, and when it is thought that only a nose surgery will not achieve a stability on the face, aesthetic surgery is performed on the chin along with the nose. In patients who want their cheekbones to be more obvious, aesthetic corrections to the chin may be required. In patients with prominent cheekbones, combined applications may be required, since the chin tip is back, which means facial stability and deterioration of harmony.

Other aesthetic surgeries applied to the face also have an effect on the chin. For example, in face lift, midface lift, or neck lift surgeries, the chin contours also change on the positive side. With these operations applied to some patients, a change can be achieved without any other application to the chin area.
